The Story of “Buck” Pitman

$400.00$519.00

The painting commemorates the forced removal of the citizens of Hamburg, Howell, and Toonerville in 1941 to make way for the Weldon Springs Ordnance Plant. Elton “Buck” Pitman refused to leave. Sitting in a rocking chair on his porch he was carried and set down at the end of his drive while his house was burned to the ground so he couldn’t return. The descendants of those removed assemble each year for a “family” reunion.
