Slave Boy of Labadie

Price range: $285.00 through $485.00

A Kansas City based historian, researching his own family genealogy discovered a secret. For five generations the family never knew they descended from nine year old Arthur, a slave on an antebellum home on Stricker Road, Labadie, Missouri. After the Civil War Arthur migrated with his slave-holding family to White Cloud, KS, where he married a “white” woman. Along with their children, they “passed for white,” and when he died there, his secret was buried with him. The original slaveholding homestead near Labadie survives to this day.
