El Santuario de Chimay?? is a pilgrimage site in Chimay??, New Mexico, and is a National Historic Landmark. Built in 1810 by the first members of Los Hermanos de la Fraternidad Piadosa de Nuestro Padre Jes??s Nazareno (the Penitentes) in Chimayo, the church was built over a round pit, the source of “holy dirt” (tierra bendita) that is believed to have healing powers.
